# Virtualization

Check the status, then follow the Intel or AMD steps for your processor.

<mark style="color:$primary;">**SIGN · BASIC / 05**</mark>

This guide shows how to enable **Virtualization** on your PC. Check its status first; if it is already enabled, you do not need to change the BIOS setting.

## Enable Virtualization <a href="#steps" id="steps"></a>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Check the status in Task Manager

1. Open **Task Manager** with `Ctrl + Shift + Esc`.
2. Go to **Performance**, then **CPU**.
3. Check the **Virtualization** status.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Enabled:** Virtualization is already on; you can move to the next page.

**Disabled:** Continue below to enable it in BIOS.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Find your motherboard model

1. Type **System Information** in the Windows search bar and open the app.
2. Check **BaseBoard Manufacturer** and your motherboard name or model.

<div align="left" data-full-width="false"><figure><img src="https://3789730940-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxZuDAScHwskuWmm8MVea%2Fuploads%2FTjMIdeRX5NI5DSjYOlxC%2F22dee7ded7a02769.png?alt=media" alt="Motherboard information in System Information"><figcaption><p>Keep the manufacturer and model handy to find your motherboard instructions.</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter BIOS

* Restart your PC and enter **BIOS**.
* Common access keys are `Del`, `F2`, or `Esc`; the key varies by manufacturer.
* For motherboard-specific instructions, search for the model together with **How to enable virtualization**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose your processor and enable the setting

Open the tab that matches your processor and follow its steps.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Intel" %}

1. Open **Advanced** in BIOS.
2. Select **CPU Configuration**.
3. Enable **Intel Virtualization Technology**.
4. Save your changes and exit BIOS.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="AMD" %}

1. Open **Advanced** in BIOS.
2. Select **CPU Configuration**.
3. Enable **SVM Mode**.
4. Save your changes and exit BIOS.
   {% endtab %}
   {% endtabs %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.signcod.com/sign/english/basics/prepare-your-pc/virtualization.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
